Born in London and raised since the age of five in Melbourne, Thomas Headon took the tried and tested route of posting covers of songs to YouTube as a teenager, steadily building himself a fanbase around the world, while he began work on his own material. Influenced by The 1975, Harry Styles and Tyler The Creator, among others, he then moved back to the UK in 2019 to pursue a career in music.
In 2019, he released his debut single, Grace — a track he wrote and produced himself — followed by Clean Me Up and debut EP The Greatest Hits, which has been streamed over 23 million times. A second EP, The Goodbye EP, followed in September 2020, which featured the acclaimed singles Loving You, Focus, UrbanAngel1999 and Cut And Bleach My Hair.
When asked to describe his style of music, Thomas told Notion, “Bedroom pop? Indie pop? Alternative pop? Not exactly sure. I just enjoy writing songs n singing them n playing the guitar.”
Now 20 years old, Thomas’s latest single, Nobody Has To Know, follows a year in which he has weathered the upheaval caused by the pandemic to play a series of festivals and headline shows in Australia and travel around the UK the past few months on his acoustic Living Room Shows tour. Looking ahead, he will embark on a 17-date UK tour in November, with many dates already sold out.
“I wrote Nobody Has To Know in London when I was seeing someone, and we kept it cool with no emotional strings attached,” Thomas says of his newest release. “I often find myself getting into those kinda situations and it gets really messy, but this one felt really fun and was exactly what the two of us wanted at the time.
“The song follows the innocence of that relationship, but I also wanted it to be a banging tune that was really fun to listen to and play live. It feels so good to finally have it out and moving in this direction, especially now that live shows are coming back and I have teased it to a point where everyone already knows the words.”
